Nationwide, we are in the midst of Police Memorial Week. This week, we pay homage to Police Officers everywhere who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives in the line of duty.
Today, the Fraternal Order of Police hosted the annual Bage Case Memorial Service for the Cleveland Division of Police. This service honors the 111 Cleveland Police Officers who have fallen in the line of duty. This honorable service began with a flag ceremony where flags are raised and lowered to half mast to pay tribute to the fallen officers. The Cleveland Division of Police Pipes and Drums band played an emotional “Amazing Grace” followed by a gun salute and an especially moving playing of Taps by a member of our own Honor Guard.
Police Officers throughout the country, throughout the world, stand united during this time of year to remember and pay respect to those whom we have lost. Their lives and their memories will never be forgotten. Our love and hearts go out to the families and survivors. May we never forget.

In case you haven’t heard, ODOT is soon beginning a project to make the Lorain-Carnegie (Hope Memorial) Bridge a safer, more family friendly and convenient option for cyclists and pedestrians wishing to travel across the Cuyahoga River valley. Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the project, crews will also install lighting to highlight the iconic “Guardians of Traffic” – the sandstone art deco pylons which stand watch over each end of the structure.
Please click here for a Fact Sheet and here for a Press Release regarding upcoming work on the bridge. Temporary daytime closures of one, westbound (outbound) lane will begin next week. Beginning soon thereafter, crews will implement a permanent work zone where the westbound curb lane will be closed to traffic through the fall of 2012. During this time, only one lane of westbound (outbound) traffic will be permitted to cross the structure. Two lanes will be maintained in the eastbound (inbound) direction. Details will be forthcoming.
For more info on the project, please visit the project website at www.BuckeyeTraffic.org/HopeMemorialBridge. The documents above may also be found on that site. Please feel free to pass this info along to your vendors, employees, etc.!
