In case you haven’t heard, ODOT is soon beginning a project to make the Lorain-Carnegie (Hope Memorial) Bridge a safer, more family friendly and convenient option for cyclists and pedestrians wishing to travel across the Cuyahoga River valley. Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of the project, crews will also install lighting to highlight the iconic “Guardians of Traffic” – the sandstone art deco pylons which stand watch over each end of the structure.
Please click here for a Fact Sheet and here for a Press Release regarding upcoming work on the bridge. Temporary daytime closures of one, westbound (outbound) lane will begin next week. Beginning soon thereafter, crews will implement a permanent work zone where the westbound curb lane will be closed to traffic through the fall of 2012. During this time, only one lane of westbound (outbound) traffic will be permitted to cross the structure. Two lanes will be maintained in the eastbound (inbound) direction. Details will be forthcoming.
For more info on the project, please visit the project website at www.BuckeyeTraffic.org/HopeMemorialBridge. The documents above may also be found on that site. Please feel free to pass this info along to your vendors, employees, etc.!
