Last night, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire took to the turf at Browns Stadium for a little fun with our United States Marine Corps friends. The flag football game was part of Marine Week in Cleveland and was free and open to the public. A good time was had by all, and though Cleveland’s first responders won 28-0, it was easy to see that winning wasn’t everything.
The game, like much of Marine Week in Cleveland, was a tremendous partnership in action. The camaraderie and respect was palpable, and there’s no doubt that a sense of pride and community filled the stadium. The diverse crowd filled a respectable portion of the north side of the stadium and was rallied by that one guy who so graciously started chants and removed his shirt for laughing, cheering fans. The Marine Corps Base Quantico Band shared a meaningful yet spectacular performance complete with a reenactment of the flag raising at Iwo Jima.
