On Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 4:20 p.m., Police Dispatch received a call for possible dog fighting in a vacant home located at 2186 W. 30th Street. Once Second District Officers arrived on scene, they could hear noises from the coming from the home. Upon checking the home, forty males were observed engaged in observing/gambling associated with Cockfighting. The Cleveland Kennels were notified, responded and removed forty three live roosters and two dead rosters from the home.
The home was found to be occupied and the homeowner, Jose Pena, was placed under arrest for Felony Cruelty to Animals and Gambling charges. Second District Detectives will consult with the Prosecutor’s Office for charges regarding the other involved males.
The Border Patrol and Immigration & Customs Enforcement was notified and responded for investigation in this incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
