Bomb Unit Responds to Federal Building, Removes Inert Non Explosive Item

The bomb unit responded to the federal building today at approximately 2:45pm and removed an inert non-explosive item. The item was transported for further investigation/analysis. During the incident, the Federal building was evacuated and several surrounding buildings were placed on lockdown. Streets around the Federal Building were closed for safety reasons.

Bomb Unit Responds, Determines Suspicious Package Contains Only Personal Effects

Today at approximately 3:00pm, the Cleveland Division of Police Bomb Squad responded to the Walmart at Steelyard Commons for a suspicious unattended package. The Walmart store was evacuated for safety reasons and traffic in the area was rerouted. The package was examined by the Bomb Technicians and determined to contain only personal effects. The owner of the package was located and after an interview, he was arrested for Inducing Panic. This matter will be further investigated. The name of the arrested male will be released once it becomes available.

Notice Regarding Police Headquarters Entrance Access

The front entrance to the Cleveland Division of Police Headquarters building at 1300 Ontario Street is being converted into a law enforcement and delivery entrance only. Construction on the entrance is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 29, 2013. All visitors to Cleveland Police headquarters will enter through the Cuyahoga County Justice Center entrances located on Lakeside avenue and Ontario Street. Upon completion of the project, access to the front entrance of the Cleveland Division of Police Headquarters will be limited to law enforcement officers only. A call box will be located at the 1300 Ontario Street entrance for deliveries. Screening of individuals and packages will be conducted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office.
