Arrest Made in Shooting of 12 Year Old Girl.

Cleveland Division of Police Fifth District Detectives along with members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation have arrested a suspect in the shooting of 12 year old Toni Landers. Russell James, a 20 year old black male was arrested in Cleveland Heights without incident.   Information was presented to the City of Cleveland Prosecutor’s office today and an arrest warrant was secured and subsequently served.

Officers were called to the area of Parkwood and Tacoma  on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at approximately 7:30pm for a female shot. Upon arrival they searched for victim and suspects.   The child, 12 year old Toni Landers, had been transported by private auto to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.  Officers  interviewed guardians who reported that while visiting the playground at Parkwood and Tacoma, two  males began shooting at  another male, who fired back, across the park and the child was struck in the chest.   This matter remains under investigation.  No further information is yet available.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Fifth District Detectives at 216-623-5518.
