Think Safety First at all Times: Man Driving Under the Influence More Concerned with Lunch Than Life

This morning, Fifth District officers responded to I-90 West at East 156th Street for a motor vehicle accident/person in the street. Upon arrival, officers located a male lying in the roadway. The male, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, was asked by concerned officers if he was ok. The man, still lying in the roadway, responded “taters.”

Officers believe that the man had fallen asleep while driving. He then proceeded to fall out of his moving vehicle. The vehicle continued on without a driver and came to a rest “parked” against the median. The driver was not struck by oncoming traffic; however, he was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained due to the fall. The 38 year old man was arrested and will be cited for DUI. He also has a felony drug warrant with Cuyahoga County.

The Cleveland Division of Police would like to take this time to send a reminder concerning impaired driving. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured as a result of this incident; however, the potential for accidents, injury or death was high. Please designate a driver before it’s too late and make your priority safety, rather than what’s for lunch
