K-9 Jack: EOW 10-4-2013
The Cleveland Division of Police is sad to report the passing of one of our canines. K-9 Jack, who was born on April 10, 2006, passed away on October 4, 2013, while on duty, due to a sudden illness. Jack will be greatly missed by all of us and especially by his handler, Patrol Officer Reggie Beddard. Reggie came to the Public Information Office today to share with us some information about Jack.
Jack was a German Shepherd, imported from the Czech Republic. He was highly trained in both Narcotics Detection and Patrol. Jack spent his days with P.O. Beddard patrolling the streets of the City of Cleveland and assisting other police agencies throughout the county with building searches, narcotics detection and arrests. In one of Jack’s biggest narcotics busts, he located 3,000 pounds of marijuana. Jack was one tough puppy and let’s just say that if he had to chase a bad guy, the bad guy was going to jail, thanks to Jack.
Off duty, our canines live with their handlers. The dogs go home each night with the officers, making the teams inseparable. The Division of Police will purchase another canine to take over where Jack left off. That puppy will have some big shoes to fill! Jack will be honored in a private ceremony on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the Cleveland Police Patrolman’s Association hall.
Rest in peace, Jack.
