On Saturday, October 12, 2013 at approximately 10:30 a.m., Police Dispatch received a call for a Hit-Skip accident involving a bicyclist on the Interstate 71 southbound entrance ramp from Denison Avenue. Upon arrival on scene officers located the seriously injured bicyclist. EMS was notified, responded to scene and conveyed the victim to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was confined for his injuries. Due to the severity of the accident the Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit was notified and is investigating.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the 76 year old bicyclist was operating southbound on the Denison Avenue entrance ramp to Interstate 71 on the right shoulder. The hit skip vehicle that was traveling behind the bicyclist for reasons unknown lost control swerved onto the right shoulder and hit the bicyclist. After being hit the bicyclist is ejected off the bicycle onto the roadway. The vehicle failed to stop and render aid to the seriously injured bicyclist and continued southbound on Interstate 71.
Suspect vehicle is described as a late model, (late 1980’s early 1990’s) Chevrolet Cavalier 4 door, dark blue in color, tinted windows, clean. The vehicle likely has damage to left front, left side, and windshield.
