Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New 3rd District Police Headquarters: A Message from Chief McGrath
It is an honor and a privilege to announce today’s Groundbreaking for the new Third District Police Station. This is a joyous occasion, especially for the community and the officers of the Third District. Today, we break ground for an inspiring and critically needed new structure to better serve the community. The Third District started out on Payne Avenue and during the restructuring of the Division of Police, the Third District was moved to E. 105th & Chester which was the old Fifth District Police Station. The Fifth District was merged with District Three, Four and Five.
Now, a new building will be erected at 4501 Chester Avenue and will become the home of the Third District for years to come. This was a major endeavor and has been a long time coming and I want to personally thank the individuals and community partners responsible for this historic event: Mayor Frank G. Jackson, City Council, Midtown Corridor Project members, Panzica Construction, and the residents of Third District for coming together on one accord to turn the new Third District from an idea into reality. Thank you to the members of our City Council for approving this project and showing that they have faith in the Division of Police and are supportive of the hard work we do. I am very proud that the new district is in a centralized location helping officers to better serve the residents of the Third District and allowing residents easier access to the district.
In closing, I look forward to the successful completion of this project and cutting the ribbon together with our community partners. Thank you!
