Remembering Patrol Officer Derek W. Owens

CLEVELAND – On behalf of the family of fallen Cleveland Police Officer, Derek W. Owens, the Cleveland Division of Police announces that a wreath laying ceremony honoring Derek’s memory will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Cleveland Police Fourth District Headquarters.
Patrol Officer Derek W. Owens was shot while on duty on February 29, 2008, at approximately 6:25 p.m. Though fellow officers rushed him to the hospital and he underwent hours of surgery, he passed away on March 1, 2008. Derek’s memory lives on within the hearts of the men and women of the Division of Police.
Patrol Officer Derek W. Owens is survived by his wife Ericka, his children Sydni and Chandler, his parents Wayne and Barbara, and his sister Dr. Dawn Owens-Watterson, as well as a host of family members, friends, fraternity brothers and members of the law enforcement community. The Cleveland Division of Police retired Patrol Officer Derek W. Owens’ badge in ceremonies on Thursday, May 15, 2008.
