Cleveland Police Academy Holding Classes 131 and 132:
On Monday, March 3, 2014, recruits of the 132nd Cleveland Police Academy Class reported for duty for the first time. The recruits will endure twenty-six weeks of intensive police training before becoming Cleveland’s “newest” finest!
Those attending the academy were selected from a Civil Service exam for the position of Patrol Officer administered in March, 2013. Candidates underwent a battery of tests and a comprehensive background check before being tendered a conditional offer of employment. Those selected will be given over 900 hours of instruction in police tactics, criminal law and community diversity training. More than one third of the training that the recruits will receive was crafted specifically to prepare our future officers to be responsive to the needs of our community. The new officers are scheduled to graduate from the Cleveland Police Academy on Friday, August 29, 2014.
The Police Academy is still in the process of training the 131st Police Academy as well. The recruits of the 131st Police Academy are scheduled to graduate on May 23, 2014. By the end of summer, 2014, and upon the graduation of both classes, the City of Cleveland is scheduled to have almost 90 new officers!
