Officer Involved Shooting, May 21, 2014

The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is currently investigating a police officer involved shooting which occurred on May 21, 2014 at approximately 11:15 pm.

Today at approximately 11:15 pm, Fifth District officers received a radio assignment to respond to the area of East 128th Street and St. Clair Avenue to assist a security guard who was following burglary suspects in a vehicle. The preliminary investigation reveals that the security guard reported that the Nampco business, located at 12818 Kirby had been burglarized by three black male suspects who then left the area in a vehicle.

As the guard followed the suspect vehicle, it crashed into a fire hydrant at East 128th Street and St. Clair Avenue. All three male suspects then fled on foot. Officers arrived on scene and upon canvassing the area one officer located one suspect in a garage at 688 East 128th Street. One shot was fired and the suspect was struck in the arm.

The suspect was treated for his injury at MetroHealth Medical Center. The two other burglary suspects were arrested in the area. The Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team will continue this investigation.
