Missing Juvenile


The Cleveland Division of Police Fifth District detective bureau is currently investigating the case of missing person juvenile Michael Gill (17). Michael has been missing since 8/24/2015 from his residence located at 16710
Humphrey Ct. Report indicates he is a Type 1 diabetic and cannot be without his meds for more than 36 hours and has prior suicide attempts. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Gill is asked to contact investigators at 216-623-5518.

Based on video evidence and witness statements, investigators believe that the suspect vehicle in the August 9, 2015 fatal hit skip incident is an early 2000’s four door gold or tan sedan. This vehicle may be a Buick Regal or Century and was operated by a black male in his 30’s. The suspect vehicle would have sustained contact damage to the right side of the vehicle.

Pursuit Investigation Team Investigating Fatal Crash and Injury to Police Officer

Accident Investigation Unit Investigating Fatal Crash and Injury to Police Officer

Today at approximately 12:30pm, Second District Detectives were in the area of W. 32nd Street and Clark Avenue conducting a crime initiative and surveillance of a suspect believed to be involved in drug activity. The officers observed this suspect enter a Nissan and begin driving. The officers followed and attempted to stop the vehicle by activating sirens and lights. The suspect vehicle then fled, causing a motor vehicle accident at Seymour Avenue and Scranton Road in which at least one motorist was injured.

The suspect vehicle continued into the area of West 14th Street and Fairfield Avenue northbound and approached a construction site, did a U-turn and proceeded southbound on West 14th Street. Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle very nearly struck a construction worker, fish-tailed, lost control, crossed over into the oncoming lane and struck an undercover police vehicle travelling north on West. 14th Street.

The police officer driving the undercover vehicle was entrapped in the vehicle and extracted by firefighters. He sustained significant injuries, though not life threatening. The suspect driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate the motor vehicle accident. This matter will be further investigated.

The Cleveland Division of Police is very happy and grateful to announce that three area businesses came together to purchase a much needed piece of equipment for one of our furry, four legged officers. A. Ripepi & Sons Funeral Homes, Ohio Law Enforcement K9 Association and SRT K9 purchased a K9 Level II ballistic vest with spike package (stab and shank resistant) for our SWAT canine officer Goro. This is one of the lightest and most flexible vests on the market, so we are confident that Goro will be comfortable and safe!

A big thanks to these companies for coming together to help us keep our community (and our puppy) safe!

Officer Involved Shooting Update

The Cleveland Division of Police Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team is currently investigating an officer involved shooting which occurred on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at approximately 4am.

The preliminary investigation reveals that zone car officers on patrol in the First District observed a vehicle on Puritas near West 150th Street driving erratically, playing loud music and without headlights. The officers conducted a traffic stop and upon approaching the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle fled. A short foot pursuit ensued at which point, the suspect produced a handgun. One officer fired several rounds at the suspect, striking him in his abdomen and hip. The suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene.

The officers rendered aid to the suspect prior to the arrival of paramedics, EMS transported the suspect from the scene to MetroHealth Medical Center where he was treated and reported to be in stable condition. No officers were injured during this incident.

The Infinity SUV driven by the suspect was a stolen vehicle, reportedly taken in an Aggravated Robbery/Motor Vehicle incident in the area of West 117th Street on August 11, 2015.

Investigators from the Use of Deadly Force Investigation Team responded to the scene for investigation. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on three days of administrative leave as per Division protocol. Officers will be identified three days post incident.

ARRESTED: Justin Damato, white male, age 28.
