Today, Mayor Frank G. Jackson swore-in James P. McPike as Commander for the Bureau of Special Investigations for the Cleveland Division of Police.
Commander McPike was appointed to the Division of Police in October of 1995. He was promoted to Sergeant of Police in 2008, promoted to Lieutenant in 2012 and promoted to Captain in June of 2015.
Commander McPike has served in the Bureau of Special Investigations for over 12 years, as a detective, sergeant, lieutenant and captain.
Commander McPike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cleveland State University and has received training from the Police Executive Leadership College and the FBI National Academy.
The Commander of the Bureau of Special Investigations oversees the Accident Investigation Unit, the Homicide Unit, Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, the Domestic Violence unit, Financial Crimes, Crime Scenes as well as Forensics.

CLEVELAND – On Saturday, April 23, 2016, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the Cleveland Division of Police will be auctioning off vehicles that have been abandoned or forfeited to the City of Cleveland. The public is invited to the Cleveland Division of Police Impound Lot #2 located at 4300 Bradley Rd. Cleveland, Ohio, where the event will take place rain or shine.
Approximately seventy-two (72) vehicles will be auctioned off. The impound lot will open at 8:00 a.m. to view the vehicles and the auction will begin at 9:00 a.m. sharp. All sales are final. None of the vehicles come with a warranty or guarantee. As always there is 10 % cash down payment for the winning bid and the remainder within five (5) days.
Monies generated from the sale of the forfeited vehicles will go to the Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF). The LETF is used to purchase items and to fund investigations in furtherance of law enforcement. The fund has been used to purchase such items as personal body armor, on-board mobile computers for police patrol cars and has funded investigations involving internet crimes against children. Monies generated from the sale of abandoned vehicles will go the General Fund.

Second District Detectives Put a Stop to West Side Graffiti
Charges have been filed against 32 individuals (24 adults and 8 juveniles) ranging from felony Vandalism to misdemeanor Spray Painting Property/Criminal Damaging due to graffiti vandals terrorizing west side properties and businesses. The investigation spanned close to six months with numerous hours logged taking reports from victims, photographs of evidence and conducting witness and victim interviews.
Detectives worked tirelessly to put an end to one of the most visible quality of life issues experienced by residents and business owners. Innocent victims: home owners, business owners, city parks and highway walls were targeted and “tagged” by the vandals for no reason. The damages caused are not only eyesores, but very expensive to correct.
Detectives have requested that any plea bargains made during the judiciary proceeding include restitution by the criminals in the form of clean up – that they assist with clean up through the various Community Development Organizations.

Captain Johnny Johnson Sworn in as Commander of the Bureau of Community Policing
The Commander of Community Policing must demonstrate an understanding of the principles of community-oriented policing, as well as biased-free policing and procedural justice. He must also have the ability to promote and reinforce constitutional policing. The commander must provide leadership and direction to members of the Division of Police and create close ties and partnerships with the citizens that we serve.
Captain Johnny Johnson will accept the challenge of this position with his appointment as the Commander of the Bureau of Community Policing today.
