Line of Duty Death Overview

It is with heavy hearts that the Cleveland Division of Police announces that Patrol Officer David J. Fahey was struck by a vehicle and killed in the line of duty.  Patrol Officer Fahey was hired by the Division of Police in 2014.  He leaves behind a loving family, many friends and his brothers and sisters in blue.  He will remain in our hearts and our prayers.

Today at approximately 6am,  Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey # 2453 was struck by a vehicle on I-90 westbound just west of Warren Road. Officer Fahey was conveyed to Metro Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  The vehicle that struck the officer did not stop and fled the area. Working with multiple law enforcement agencies in the area, the suspect vehicle was located on E. 31st in Lorain, Ohio.

Cleveland Division of Police investigators have arrested a male in the line of duty death of officer David Fahey.
Israel Alvarez, Hispanic male, age 44, was taken into custody in Lorain, Ohio for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit Skip. Investigators will consult with the Prosecutor’s Office regarding charges.
This investigation remains in the early stages and more information may be released as it becomes available.

Line of Duty Death Update – Arrest Information

Cleveland Division of Police investigators have arrested a male in the line of duty death of officer David Fahey.
Israel Alvarez, Hispanic male, age 44, was taken into custody in Lorain, Ohio for Aggravated Vehicular Homicide and Felony Hit Skip.
Investigators will consult with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office regarding charges.
This investigation remains in the early stages and more information may be released as it becomes available.

Line of Duty Death – Update

Today at approximately 6am,  Cleveland Police Officer David Fahey # 2453 was struck by a vehicle on I-90 westbound just west of Warren Road. Officer Fahey was conveyed to Metro Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The vehicle that struck the officer did not stop and fled the area. Working with multiple law enforcement agencies in the area, the suspect vehicle was located on E. 31st in Lorain, Ohio.

At this time detectives are questioning a male regarding the crash. An arrest has not been confirmed.

Suspect Vehicle involved in Fatal Hitskip

Today at approximately 6am, a Cleveland Police Officer was struck by a vehicle on I-90 westbound just west of Warren Road. The vehicle that struck the officer did not stop and is possibly a white Toyota Camry with heavy front end damage. The partial plate information reads as GTD (possibly).
