Updates Provided Regarding Recent Homicides
Police provide updates on recent homicides
CLEVELAND – Today, members of the Cleveland Division of Police, along with the Cleveland Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced updates in recent homicides along with information relative to award monies offered. Deputy Chief Harold Pretel, Fourth District Commander Brandon Kutz, Homicide Lieutenant Ali Pillow and FBI Supervisory Special Agent Mike Pinto discussed the progression of eight cases, which occurred between September 16 and 19, 2018, and the importance of community involvement.
Following is a brief overview of the cases discussed:
Francis Sanchez Alvarez HM age 27, Rebecca Vasquez, HF age 34: this incident occurred on September 16, 2018 at 8811 Detroit Avenue. Both victims were found shot inside of car. There have been no arrests or suspects identified in this case.
Victor Maar Jr. WM age 35: this incident occurred on September 16, 2018 at 3579 W. 146th Street. The victim and a suspect were involved in an argument, suspect shot victim. A male has been arrested in this case.
Eusebia Garcia HF age 94: this incident occurred on September 17, 2018 at 6203 Gertrude. During a home invasion the victim was beaten by the suspect. The victim’s 74 year old daughter was also beaten, however she survived. No suspects have been identified in this case.
Black female age 31. Victim’s ID has not yet been released: this incident occurred on September 17, 2018 at 5920 Engle. The victim was found deceased under a set of stairs behind a church. The body was in a state of decomposition. There are no suspects identified or arrests in this case.
Antoine E. Reese BM age 24: this incident occurred September 17, 2018 at 2016 W. 91st Street. The victim was found shot in a hallway. A suspect has been identified.
Gerald Hays BM age 29: this incident occurred on September 17, 2018 at 1014 E. 146th street. The victim was shot by a suspect who jumped out of car and shot him while he was in a driveway. No suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made.
Sarontay Williams BM age 21, also a 15 year old male shot in leg: this incident occurred on September 19, 2018 at Zelma George Recreation Center in the parking lot. There were reports of a fight with shots fired. Detectives continue to work on leads in this case. No arrests have been made.

The Cleveland Division of Police would like to remind the public that policing is a partnership and community involvement is paramount. If you see something, please say something. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Mike Pinto announced that the FBI will provide award monies of up to $5,000.00 for information leading to arrests/convictions in the Eusebia Garcia case. Award monies of up to $2,500.00 is offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrests/convictions in all of the cases mentioned today.
