Man Shot While Attempting to Prevent Friend From Driving Drunk: Second District Officers Locate and Arrest Suspect

The Cleveland Division of Police Second District Detective Bureau is currently investigating the felonious assault shooting of a male which occurred on August 3, 2013 at approximately 7:30pm at the address of 3200 block of Roanoke Avenue. The preliminary investigation reveals that the victim became involved in an argument with the suspect, as victim was attempting to take the suspect’s keys in order to prevent suspect from driving while intoxicated. The suspect fought with the victim and shot him in the chest. He then fled the scene. The victim was transported via EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Officers were able to obtain suspect’s name from witnesses along with a possible destination. At this point the officers broadcast suspect’s description, vehicle description and destination to other officers and to the police Aviation Unit who assisted via chopper. The suspect was located and arrested in Middleburgh Heights. Officers also located the weapon used in the back yard of that residence. As a result of this incident, a Felonious Assault Shooting/Having Weapons While Under Disability/Tampering with Evidence/Possession of Criminal Tools/Gun Confiscation/Arrest report was completed. The suspect remains in the Central Prision Unit awaiting charges.
